What are the main challenges in manufacturing oxygen cylinder valve body parts?

Oxygen cylinders are essential pieces of equipment in the diving industry. Because of the special conditions in which they are used, they place high demands on the experience and competence of the prototype manufacturer.

How does kingsun start the manufacturing process step by step?

After examining the challenges and details of the project, kingsun was ready to produce the oxidized bottle valve body. Here, we will go through the process regarding material selection, machining solutions, and test fits.

1. Defining the final material

Several aluminum alloys are commonly used in prototyping oxygen cylinder parts, including 6061 and 7075.
For this project, we propose to select aerospace aluminum 7075 as the machining material based on the following two considerations:

  1. Aluminium alloy 7075 is more resistant to corrosion than 6061, which means it is more resistant to corrosion in underwater environments and has a longer service life.
  2. Aluminium 7075 has a better machined surface finish than 6061.

2. High-precision machining process

In this project, we used CNC mill-turn machining to machine the oxygen cylinder valve body. To obtain the best surface quality, the part’s surface is machined through a multi-stage process of roughing—medium roughing—medium finishing and finishing.

3. Black anodising

After the parts are processed, we send them to the excellent anodizing factory with which we have long been cooperating. The parts are anodized to enhance their performance in all aspects.
4. Customer Test
As the oxygen valve body is to be disassembled and assembled, we will produce various parts for the customer to perform test assembly before delivery to better meet the use requirements.
